2015 May: Executive Director’s Blog

Dear Friends,

Spring of 2015 is bringing exciting news and happenings at the Jimmy Stewart Museum in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

This year, celebration of the 107th birth anniversary of James Stewart, will coincide with the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the Jimmy Stewart Museum.  The public is invited to attend a range of functions and events in honor of these milestones.  A public event will be held at the museum at 12 noon on Wednesday 20 May.  Please check the museum website and local media for additional details.

The Jimmy Stewart Museum opened on 20 May 1995 and has since welcomed over 160,000 visitors from around the world.  Our annual Harvey Award event has brought such notables as: June Allyson, Janet Leigh, Shirley Jones, Ernest Borgnine, Rich Little, Robert Wagner, James Best, Fabian, Nick and Nina Clooney, Ben Gazzara, Patrick Wayne and Carol Burnett.  These events have generated national and international media attention for our museum and the community of Indiana, PA.

This year the museum is pleased to reinstate its Scholarship Program, as well as a new Educational Grant Program for teachers.  Information on both programs is available on the Museum’s website at: www.jimmy.org.  The Board of Directors place a high value on the educational and ethical training opportunities that the legacy of James Stewart presents and is committed to working with all segments of the educational community to foster this initiative.

To join the ranks of the notable Harvey Award winners who have traveled to Indiana to receive the award, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce the 2015 Harvey Award will be presented to James Caviezel.  Caviezel is well known for his roles in “Passion of the Christ,”  “Bobby Jones,” and “The Thin Red Line.”  He is also widely known for his starring role in the CBS crime drama series “Person of Interest.”  Caviezel came to know Stewart shortly after arriving in Hollywood and the two maintained a friendship up until Stewart passed away.  The Award will be presented at the Museum’s annual fund-raising gala, The Harvey Award, on Saturday 29 August at the Chestnut Ridge Ballroom in Blairsville. Ticket information will be released shortly.  Check the Museum’s website for updates @ www.jimmy.org.

We look forward to seeing you at our events and rely on your continued support for this meaningful mission!

As ever, Thanks for listening—

Tim
